It's All About Comfort & Safety
Expecting a child is one of the greatest joys of life. However, body changes that occur naturally during pregnancy, such as redistribution of weight, loosening of femoral ligaments and an ever expanding abdomen can cause discomfort. Pre-natal Massage can help to ease some of the discomfort of pregnancy.
Philippa offers pre-natal massage on her custom massage table which has a removable oval section with strong elastic netting to support the pregnant abdomen, which allows the mother-to-be to be comfortable in the face down position, even during advanced pregnancy. Early in pregnancy, the body cushioning system (which has a soft well in the center) will probably be enough softness to allow face-down comfort. Adjustments are made to the table and cushioning as the pregnancy advances to make sure the client is as comfortable as possible. In the face-up position, the body cushion system elevates the upper body, so the pregnant client is never flat on her back. A bolster under the knees takes pressure off the lower back area. Philippa recommends that the client relax, listen to the soothing music on the excellent sound system with the distant sound of ocean waves in the background for a completely relaxing and therapeutic pre-natal massage. Feedback is welcome. Each client should feel free to adjust her position or notify Philippa if the room is too hot or cold or any other issue they want to communicate. The client's comfort and safety is Philippa's priority.
Pre-natal massage is generally for a woman experiencing a healthy pregnancy with no unusual health issues. However, Philippa will consider providing pre-natal massage to women with mild to moderate pregnancy complications if the client has spoken to her doctor and has his/her approval. If the pregnancy is considered "High-risk", massage is usually contraindicated.
Philippa Dodson, LMT has been giving pre-natal massage since 1991 and you can count on her expertise & professionalism.
